This scheme forms an integral part of The South Kilburn Regeneration Plan which by 2023 will provide 2400 new homes on the site of the former South Kilburn Estate. The scheme was designed for The London Borough of Brent by Rick Mather Architects and it was granted planning permission in 2010. Hester Architects Ltd were appointed by Catalyst Housing Group in 2012 and they worked closely with RMA to implement the proposals.
The Scheme
This scheme comprises a total of 64 rented units across two 4/5 storey blocks fronting Rupert Road and separated by Denmark Road. The buildings provide accommodation in the form of single storey flats and double storey duplexes with access via stair cores and an elevated pedestrian walkway at third floor level. The buildings are arranged around an internal courtyard formed with the adjacent Thames Court building and a rear communal garden. The buildings are predominantly brick with a set-back top storey of zinc and the geometry and they are articulated with punched windows and recessed balconies. The skewed third and fourth floors of the Hicks building provides a distinctive view from Carlton Vale.
